Feeders are the backbone of the grid and directly power our daily lives and critical infrastructure. But the grid is becoming increasingly complex. Distributed energy resources are creating two-way power flow, electrification is causing loads to grow and shift, and extreme weather is driving undergrounding for greater resilience. Today’s feeder devices must address more dynamic situations.

S&C’s IntelliRupter® PulseCloser® Fault Interrupter is an all-in-one device that can navigate the rapidly changing grid. Whether you want to increase segmentation, loop your circuits, or protect underground lines, the IntelliRupter® fault interrupter can do it all. You can tackle multiple grid-modernization goals at once or start with one application and unlock more as you go—all with one device. No matter where you are in your journey to advance the grid, the IntelliRupter fault interrupter evolves with you.

The Difference: PulseClosing® Technology

Using PulseClosing Technology, the IntelliRupter fault interrupter uses 95% less energy to test for faults. This technology creates less stress on the aging grid and enables the many applications the IntelliRupter fault interrupter supports.

What Are Your Goals?

Grid-modernization plans can take various shapes and sizes. Whether you have one goal or a multi-year strategy, you can make progress at your own pace with the IntelliRupter fault interrupter. Check out these common goals to see the stacked benefits one device can bring.

IntelliRupter® fault interrupters include a base-integrated control that’s accessed for configuration and operation via a secure Wi-Fi link. This innovative approach improves reliability, operator safety, and convenience. It also significantly enhances security compared with the “lock-and-key” approach of most conventional reclosers.

S&C can furnish the control with a wide range of radios, including our SpeedNet™ Radio. SpeedNet Radios greatly enhance IntelliTeam® SG Automatic Restoration System restoration speed. They combine extremely secure long-range communication, high-volume data transmission, and flexible mesh networking to provide benchmark performance for unlicensed radio networks.

Other options and accessories include:

  • SDA-4554R3 Communication Module firmware version 3.x:
    • Provides cybersecurity capabilities when the SDA-4554R3 Communication Module if configured with the IP Ethernet wiring
