Rogers Park-Headquartered Manufacturer Honored for Third Consecutive Year in Chicago Tribune’s 12th Annual List
CHICAGO, November 5, 2021 – S&C Electric Company, Chicago’s second-largest manufacturer and a leading electrical grid innovator improving power reliability and delivery worldwide, has been named one of the Chicago Tribune’s top 20 best places to work for the third year in a row among large employers in the Chicagoland area. Determined by feedback gathered from team members within the company, the prestigious distinction marks S&C among the top workplaces in Chicago.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by our team members as a top workplace for the third consecutive year,” said Anders Sjoelin, president and CEO of S&C Electric Company. “As an employee-owned company, we strive to create a culture where all team members feel valued and cared for. To ensure we are always putting our people first, we are continually looking for opportunities to improve our team members’ experience. As part of these efforts, this year we continued to expand the diversity of our workforce and leadership and increased our minimum wage to $18 an hour.”
Additionally, S&C keeps team member growth a priority and empowers individuals to steer their unique professional journeys.
“From engineering to manufacturing roles, S&C offers tremendous professional growth opportunities. Our team members are helping to transform the electrical grid as the industry navigates the ongoing energy transition. There has never been a more exciting time to work in this sector.” added Sjoelin. “The growing dependance on electricity, an increased global focus on climate change and carbon reduction, and the ongoing impact of severe weather patterns make the need for grid resilience and S&C innovations greater than ever before.”
Now in its 12th year, the Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces list recognizes companies that engage, motivate, and reward team members while also exploring how organizations create and sustain a positive and productive culture. S&C was honored by being named the 16th best large employer out of the 20 large employers recognized. The full list, which includes 200 organizations throughout Chicago, includes Fortune 100 companies and covers a wide range of industries.
S&C has been headquartered in the city of Chicago for more than 110 years. Employing 2,000 team members at its Chicago headquarters and more than 3,500 team members worldwide, S&C creates equipment to advance the reliability and resilience of the electrical grid, powering communities and critical infrastructure around the world, including hospitals, military bases, educational campuses, and data centers.
To qualify for the Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces list, a company must have at least 100 employees in the Chicago area. The survey is then run by a third-party research firm, Energage, which coordinates the surveys and calculates the list of top workplaces.
