S&C Electric Company Exceeds Half a Million Dollars in Funds Raised for Local Chicago Community Charities
Company milestone to benefit Feeding America, Misericordia, CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, and United Way
CHICAGO, September 8, 2020 – S&C Electric Company, a leading grid innovator improving power reliability and delivery worldwide, today announced its annual employee-driven charitable campaign collectively raised more than $500,000 for CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, Feeding America, Misericordia, and United Way. This annual giving campaign is a longstanding company tradition, and 2020 was the most successful year yet. Funds were raised through team member donations, with S&C matching all donations by 150 percent.
“I joined S&C at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic knowing of the company’s strong values and century-long commitment to supporting the communities in which we work,” said Anders Sjoelin, president and CEO of S&C Electric Company. “It’s been both heartening and inspiring to see our team members’ continued commitment to helping those in need, particularly during these unprecedented times. On behalf of our team members, I’m honored to present checks to CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, Feeding America, Misericordia, and United Way to help support their respective services, which are needed more than ever.”
S&C’s annual giving campaign underscores its core values and guiding principles of excellence, respect, integrity, and responsible stewardship. Since the inception of the S&C annual giving campaign, the company has continually surpassed its annual campaign goals, with this year being no exception in spite of the pandemic. In recognition of the additional hardship brought on by COVID-19 nationwide, 2020 marked the first year S&C raised funds for Feeding America alongside three other Chicago-based organizations, with the intention of supporting local communities experiencing financial difficulties during the pandemic crisis.
The largest donation, $215,587, went to Misericordia, a Rogers Park-based charity that helps people with disabilities achieve maximum independence and realize their greatest potential. CHC: Creating Healthier Communities, Feeding America, and United Way received $121,257, $99,565, and $86,935 respectively.
“Over 40 million Americans found themselves out of work during the pandemic, and sadly that shows no sign of stopping,” said Elizabeth Marquardt, Managing Director, New Partnerships at Feeding America. “With the help of generous neighbors like S&C, we are continuing to ensure the most vulnerable members of our community have the food and support they need.”
“S&C has been an incredible neighbor to Misericordia, and we’re honored to once again be included in this campaign” said Martha Floberg, Misericordia’s development officer. “Whether they are sharing COVID-19 supplies to help us maintain the health and safety of our staff and residents, contributing financially to our organization, or providing employment opportunities for our residents, it’s comforting to know that we have S&C just down the street.”
“Health has never been more important,” said Thomas G. Bognanno, president and CEO of CHC: Creating Healthier Communities. “Thanks to S&C’s generosity, we’re powering transformative change, addressing health disparities and creating healthier communities, together.”
S&C has been committed to giving back to the Rogers Park neighborhood and the city of Chicago throughout its 109-year history. For more information about S&C, please visit sandc.com.
