S&C PureWave DSTATCOM® Installed and In Service at Dun Law Wind Farm Near Edinburgh, Scotland
An S&C PureWave DSTATCOM® Distributed Static Compensator, supplied to the UK for installation at Renewable Energy Systems’ (RES’) Dun Law Extension Wind Farm, recently went into service. RES reported that the extension of this wind farm, near Edinburgh, Scotland, is complete, adding 35 turbines with an output of 30 MW and bringing total capacity at the site to 47 MW.
The ±5 MVAR PureWave DSTATCOM enables the wind farm to comply with the UK Grid Code. The system meets UK compliance testing requirements — a prerequisite for wind farms to meet the rigorous Grid Code interconnection standards. These standards include complex interconnection specifications that require continuous voltage regulation or reactive power control with very rapid response. The PureWave DSTATCOM includes step-up transformers and switchgear as well as switched capacitor and reactor banks.
RES has now delivered the wind farm to Scottish Power Renewables, ahead of schedule and in compliance with the UK standards.
