S&C Electric Canada Ltd. Receives PureWave DSTATCOM® Order for Scottish Wind Farm VAR Compensation.

S&C has received an order from Powersystems UK Ltd., in Bristol, for a PureWave DSTATCOM® Distributed Static Compensator for the initial phase of the 48-MW Aikengall Wind Project. S&C is a longstanding manufacturer of electric power switching and protection equipment, including the PureWave® family of power quality products.

The PureWave DSTATCOM is a part of the electrical equipment order which Powersystems UK received from Cheshire-based Community Wind Ltd., who will construct, own, and operate the project. Wind Prospect Ltd., of Bristol, is the owners-engineer.

The +22/-14 MVAR inverter-based system will be delivered in the summer of 2008 and placed in service in the fall. It includes transformers, a switched inductor, and switched capacitor banks which will work as a system to meet Great Britain’s Grid Code requirements.

Andrew Jones, S&C’s Managing Director of S&C Europe, noted “This is S&C’s first VAR compensation system for wind-power in the UK and it is extremely important to us. S&C has deep familiarity with utility system practices. We plan to use this project to demonstrate to wind farm developers how the robust PureWave DSTATCOM can help them quickly be certified as meeting interconnecting utilities’ grid code requirements.”
