Universal Interface Module Expands Applications for IntelliTEAM II®

S&C’s IntelliTEAM II® Automatic Restoration System tracks conditions on your overhead and underground distribution systems, and quickly initiates automatic service restoration in response to an outage or fault. With IntelliTEAM II, multiple S&C 5800 Series Automatic Switch Controls work as an autonomous team, operating their associated S&C Scada-Mate® Switches, Remote Supervisory Vista® Underground Distribution Switchgear, and/or Remote Supervisory Pad-Mounted Gear to transfer loads and minimize customer outage time.

The teams use peer-to-peer communication and distributed intelligence to make restoration decisions. Adjacent teams negotiate to provide multiple restoration paths, so IntelliTEAM II can maintain reliable service for critical customers even if more than one source is lost. With its capability for inter-team negotiation, you can expand your IntelliTEAM II network without custom programming.

S&C’s Universal Interface Module enables intelligent electronic devices not of S&C manufacture to function as team members in an IntelliTEAM II Automatic Restoration System. A module does not add new features to its host IED, it enables the host device to communicate with other team members and implement IntelliTEAM II restoration decisions. Fault interrupting and protective functions remain under control of the host IED.

The interface module connects to the protective relay or recloser control. IntelliTEAM II can then acquire status information and analog data from the IED, and the IED can respond to IntelliTEAM II commands. Operating software, set points, and logged data (including alarms and team status) are stored in the permanent non-volatile memory of the module. As new features become available for the interface module, you'll be able to add them using IntelliLINK® Setup Software.

Flexible Communications

Remote configuration of the interface module, and remote access to host device status information are available through optional IntelliLINK Remote Setup Software or WinMon® Graphical User Interface. To fully integrate non-S&C-manufactured devices with IntelliTEAM II, you’ll need to install UtiliNet® Radios or another IntelliTEAM II-compatible system.

Field-Proven Design

You have the security of S&C’s field-proven microprocessor-based technology, manufactured in an ISO 9002-certified facility. Thousands of S&C controls are in use by hundreds of utilities worldwide.

S&C’s Power Systems Services Division can provide design consultation for your IntelliTEAM II Automatic Restoration System project. Their sophisticated feeder simulations can emulate and test any proposed system configuration.
