S&C Participates in Large-Scale Energy Storage Project in West Virginia
The ability to store large quantities of electricity for later use has long been recognized as a desirable goal. It can reduce system peaks, make better use of renewable energy, and better match supply to demand. S&C Electric Company and partners American Electric Power, NGK Insulators Ltd., and Sandia Labs installed a 1.2 MW sodium-sulfur battery and inverter in Charleston, WV, last summer. The DESS (Distributed Energy Storage System) will be used for peak-shaving and distributed generation energy storage.
