Trans-Rupter II® for Cold-Temperature Applications—Now with Enhanced Interrupting Ratings.

S&C is pleased to introduce a new version of Trans-Rupter II Transformer Protector, Model EX rated for application down to -50°C . . . now with enhanced secondary-side interrupting ratings. Transformer protective devices such as circuit breakers rated for application down to -50°C are often quite expensive; Trans-Rupter II provides a much more economical alternative for sophisticated primary-side transformer protection.

Cold-temperature models provide virtually all the benefits of standard Trans-Rupter IIs, including three-phase operation, resettable interrupters, 3-cycle interrupting time, easy installation, and very low maintenance requirements. The silicone-polymer insulation discourages ice formation . . . and neither the pole-units nor the low-voltage enclosure require heaters. And like standard Trans-Rupter IIs, the cold-temperature models are available with optional motor operators which can be coordinated with a motorized disconnect to remotely close and charge the pole-units.

Cold-temperature models have a robust 31.5-kA primary-fault interrupting rating down to -35°C. At temperatures between -35°C and -50°C, the primary-side fault-interrupting rating is 10 kA. Recent testing has allowed S&C to assign an enhanced secondary-side fault-interrupting rating: at temperatures between -35°C and -50°C, the secondary-side fault-interrupting rating is now 2000 A at 69 kV and 950 A at 115 and 138 kV.
