Introducing the 22/38-kV Fault Tamer® Fuse Limiter for Line-to-Ground Application at 38 kV.
S&C is pleased to announce the availability of a new Fault Tamer Fuse Limiter, developed in response to requests for a two-component fusing system for line-to-ground application on 38-kV systems. It offers the energy-limitation and power-quality advantages of conventional current-limiting fuses plus the renowned features and benefits inherent to Fault Tamer, including retrofittability, ease of installation and removal, and no-expelled-part operation.
The new 22/38-kV Fault Tamer has a continuous-current rating of 15 amperes. It’s suitable for protection of a wide range of overhead distribution transformers rated through 167 kVA single phase.
The 22/38-kV Fault Tamer features both a new backup limiter and a new series fuse tube. These components are installed in a Catalog Number 89802R10 Mounting — the same mounting used in Catalog Number 89042R10 and 89052R10 Type XS Fuse Cutouts rated 25 kV nominal, 150 kV BIL, and 17-inch (432-mm) leakage distance to ground. The new model uses the same fuse cartridge as 15-kV and 25-kV Fault Tamers.
The backup limiter is the same size and shape as the 25-kV backup limiter but contains an additional length of ribbon element, as required to successfully clear faults on 38-kV systems. The molded cover prominently identifies the 38-kV maximum voltage rating, to help ensure the device is properly applied.
The new 22/38-kV Fault Tamer will be available for shipment in June 2004. To order a 22/38-kV Fault Tamer Fuse Limiter for new installations (i.e., the mounting, backup limiter, and fuse tube, but less the fuse cartridge) specify Catalog Number 98044. To order just the backup limiter, specify Catalog Number 98254. To order just the fuse tube (including trunnion), specify Catalog Number 98544. Contact your nearest S&C Sales Office for details.
