PureWave UPS™ is Prescribed for a Medical Facility.
A regional medical center in North Carolina selected an S&C PureWave UPS System to enhance power quality for the MRI machine in their facility.
Periodic voltage sags had been causing major damage to the exciter element of the magnetic resonance imaging machine. An incredible $250,000 repair charge applied each time the exciter element was damaged. An uninterruptible power supply was determined to be the best solution for handling these voltage sags. Just one problem: There was no room for a UPS.
S&C’s PureWave UPS System provided the only viable solution since it can be installed outdoors. A 313-kVA/250-kW unit was delivered in January 2003, completely factory-assembled and tested. The PureWave UPS system is expected to save over $500,000 per year in repair costs, yielding an immediate return on investment.
S&C’s PureWave UPS System is available in ratings up to 20 MVA and offers 60 seconds of protection at 100% load, thus handling practically all disturbances. The system features a reliable off-line design that dramatically increases battery life and reduces maintenance.
There’s a PureWave® power quality solution for every power quality need. The PureWave UPS™ System, PureWave DSTATCOM® Distributed Static Compensator, and PureWave AVC® Adaptive VAR Compensator can solve virtually any power quality problem through 34.5 kV.
