Look for the cover story of the May 2002 issue of Power Quality magazine, entitled “Premium Power Solutions.” This article was authored by S&C’s Tim Wood, a senior applications engineer in S&C’s Power Electronics Division, and Brad Roberts, Director of Marketing for the Power Electronics Division.

A great deal has been written about the types of power disturbances that can affect sensitive equipment. By far, the majority of power quality-related events are caused by utility voltage sags, transients, and momentary and complete outages.¹ This article discusses some of the major technologies available to mitigate power quality disturbances originating from utilities, along with current trends by manufacturers to make low- and medium-voltage devices more reliable.
