Introducing Type XS Fuse Cutouts with Composite-Polymer Silicone Insulators.
S&C is pleased to announce the introduction of a new composite-polymer silicone insulator option for Type XS Fuse Cutouts. This new option was developed in response to breakage problems some utilities have experienced with porcelain-insulator-equipped cutouts. In addition to enhanced resistance to breakage, S&C Type XS Fuse Cutouts with composite-polymer silicone insulators offer these advantages:
- Light weight — 35% lighter at 14.4 kV, 50% lighter at 25 kV. They’re easy to handle and easy to install.
- Better performance in coastal and high-pollution areas — the time-proven, UV-resistant, hydrophobic polymer formulation is vastly superior to EPDM rubber.
- Fully compatible with Type XS Cutout fuse tubes and disconnect blades — simplifies stocking requirements.
- Same outstanding handling you've come to expect from Type XS Fuse Cutouts — easy fuse link installation, fuse tube insertion, and Loadbuster® Tool operation.
S&C Type XS Fuse Cutout mountings with composite-polymer silicone insulators are available with the following ratings:
- 14.4 kV nominal, 110 kV BIL, 8½ inch (216 mm) leakage distance to ground;
- 25 kV nominal, 150 kV BIL, 17 inch (432 mm) leakage distance to ground; and
- 25 kV nominal, 150 kV BIL, 26 inch (660 mm) leakage distance to ground.
Coincident with the introduction of the polymer-insulator, S&C is introducing another optional feature: Type 304 stainless-steel inserts and hardware. This option is especially beneficial for utilities in coastal regions or in areas with high pollution.
