Power Systems Services Awarded a Fast-Paced Turnkey Project in the Southwest.

Scada-Mate® Switching Systems

A large Southwestern utility decided to increase reliability to their customers by adding new switching and protection products to their distribution system.

The utility chose S&C’s Scada-Mate® Switching System with EnergyLine 5801 controls. This product combination offers all functions necessary for such applications-sensing, control, and communications-all provided in one economical, completely self-contained integrated package. The performance capabilities, operating features, and integration of functions provided by Scada-Mate Switching Systems make remote-supervisory control of distribution feeders a practical and economic reality for this customer.

Initially, the utility had decided to do the installation themselves. However, the project schedule was very tight — 3 months to purchase, engineer, and install 42 new switches and controllers. The lead time on the switches alone would negate the possibility of completing the project in the desired timeframe. The utility approached Power Systems Services to help accomplish this daunting task. To meet the aggressive deadline, PSS worked with S&C’s Switch Product Division to decrease lead times and ensure an adequate shipping schedule. With the first lot of switches on site, S&C will begin construction at the end of this month.

Power Systems Services is currently working on the engineering and pre-construction planning of the project: generating bills of material, feeder location maps, and planning and organizing the sequence of installations. PSS has already mobilized the crews and briefed the contractor on the forthcoming project.

Why take a chance and miss a deadline? Power Systems Services will coordinate with all players in a project including suppliers, contractors, and utilities to ensure that project deadlines and cost targets are met. Call S&C today and realize the peace of mind you too can enjoy.
