Special Vista® Load Switch Fits Through Manhole Openings.
A utility in South America had a need for an in-line 600-amp load switch for submersible applications. The utility was very interested in S&C Vista® Underground Distribution Switchgear (UDS) due to its superior reliability and unique features. However, they only required a single switched way . . . and it had to fit through a 32-inch manhole opening.
To accommodate this need, S&C designed a “manhole style” Vista unit. The Manhole-Style Vista UDS features the standard Vista three-pole load-interrupter switch, completely sealed in a rugged stainless-steel tank and insulated with SF6 gas. The cylindrical tank measures 29.5-inches in diameter to fit through most manhole openings. Cable entrance and exit is via 600-amp bushings or optional 200-amp bushing wells. The unit is available through 15.5 kV and 630-amps continuous.
The quality of Vista’s gas-tight SF6-insulated construction is unprecedented. All gas seals have been extensively tested and field-proven, and every part of the unit is fully submersible in the most hostile environments. The extremely large viewing window and internal 3-position (closed-open-ground) switch provide a clearly visible open point.
With it’s compact design, rugged construction, and internal visible open point, the Manhole-Style Vista UDS is perfect for switching main feeders, radials, or networks in areas where installation space is restricted. It can be installed on a stand or directly on the floor. With the optional mounting bracket, it can be mounted on a wall. Virtually any orientation or mounting style can be accommodated.
