U.S. Air Force Awards Turnkey Substation Expansion Project to S&C’s Power Systems Services.

Air Force base.

An Air Force base in Tennessee needed to expand the 161-kV substation at its high-tech aerospace research and development facilities. They called on S&C to provide a turnkey solution for a bus extension to an S&C Series 2000 Circuit-Switcher, Model 2030. The project included all structural, electrical, and civil engineering, as well as procurement and construction management. S&C engineers performed on-site inspections to determine the exact design and clearance requirements for the installation. Following the site visit, S&C’s experts convened to discuss an overall project strategy, taking into consideration the exacting government specifications, security guidelines, and strict project timetables.

Through project management with subcontractors and customer representatives, S&C was able to submit the design and propose the strategy for implementing the project objectives with a planned completion date ahead of the schedule. S&C’s construction management team will oversee the installation and commissioning of equipment, including all required government tests and demonstrations. A complete report will be submitted to the customer covering analyses, tests, and inspections of the equipment and the conformance to design criteria.
