Justification Worksheet

Are you wondering where to start in justifying a capital investment for the purpose of power quality improvement? S&C can help you organize your data, and streamline the process.

First, estimate the number of power disturbances you have had in the past year, then contact your local utility service provider to obtain precise historical information on the size and duration of power quality disturbances that affect your facility-voltage sags, voltage interruptions, and power outages. Next, compile the costs which your business incurs whenever a power disturbance takes place. Naturally, longer interruptions usually mean higher costs. The final step is to compare the costs of these power quality disturbances with the investment required to solve them.

To organize this data, S&C has created a data bulletin and Microsoft® Excel workbook called “Economic Justification for a Low-Voltage Uninterruptible Power Supply System.” The workbook has a series of three worksheets designed to organize costs associated with power quality problems, categorize alternative investments, and calculate simple paybacks as well as provide comparisons between investment alternatives. By simply inserting data into the worksheet, costs and investments are automatically summarized, and alternative proposals can be compared. See the attached sample worksheet.
