Type XS Fuse Cutouts

Construction Detail

1. Birdproof-design insulator — higher insulation characteristics than ANSI distribution-cutout standards. NEMA Type B and extended mounting brackets available. Porcelain insulator shown; composite-polymer silicone also available.
2. Parallel-groove connector — tin-plated cast red brass. For ease of connection, accommodates two conductors, even of unlike size. Other styles of connectors are also available.
3. Upper contact — silver-to-silver; stainless-steel spring provides high contact pressure.
4. Rugged attachment hooks for Loadbuster — guide fuse tube during closing.
5. Fuse tube — features MultiWind™ liner that’s virtually impervious to water ingress. Special UV-resistant finish assures long life. Models also available with disconnect blade.
6. Lower Contacts (not visible) — silver-to-silver; provide dual current path, independent of hinge pivot.
7. Trunnion — high-strength cast bronze, silver plated. Surfaces around trunnion bear on broad hinge surfaces to keep fuse tube in alignment during closing.
8. Trunnion pocket secures fuse tube in hinge during closing.
9. Flipper provides high-speed terminal separation, quick cable flip-out, and (in conjunction with the toggle joint) reduces transmission of forces to fuse link during closing.
10. Sturdy ferrules — cast red brass. Pinned at top and bottom of fuse tube for permanent alignment.
11. Toggle joint assures reliable dropout after interruption.
