Construction

Arc-Resistant Metal-Enclosed Switchgear has the same rugged construction features of S&C Custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear, plus the following special features needed to withstand the effects of internal arcing faults:

1. Hinged pressure-relief flaps open fully in eight milliseconds to relieve overpressure from internal arc
2. Optional through bushings help isolate faults from adjoining bays
3. Vents with replaceable filters. Located 78-inches or more above grade
4. Double gaskets (not visible) create extra sealing around the door for protection against internal overpressure
5. Door hinges, strengthened to resist the release of gases
6. Chimney allows air to circulate through the bay during normal operation
