The Bay Area Rapid Transits System (BART) in San Francisco uses S&C Custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear with source-transfer controls to provide power from PG&E to its rail stations. After decades of reliable service, the switchgear at 25 BART stations was due to be changed out. S&C Electric Company was able to provide a source transfer solution by retrofitting their Custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear rather than changing it out.
S&C enhanced system reliability by replacing the electromechanical source-transfer control in each line-up with a Micro-AT® Source-Transfer Control at 25 Bay Area Rapid Transit stations. S&C provided complete engineering, delivery, installation, commissioning, and training services for each site, with no safety incidents and minimal service interruptions to one of the nation’s largest transit systems.
