Metal-Enclosed Switchgear Retrofit Boosts BART System Reliability

Bookmark and Share

The Bay Area Rapid Transits System (BART) in San Francisco uses S&C Custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear with source-transfer controls to provide power from PG&E to its rail stations.  After decades of reliable service, the switchgear at 25 BART stations was due to be changed out.  S&C Electric Company was able to provide a source transfer solution by retrofitting their Custom Metal-Enclosed Switchgear rather than changing it out.

S&C enhanced system reliability by replacing the electromechanical source-transfer control in each line-up with a Micro-AT® Source-Transfer Control at 25 Bay Area Rapid Transit stations. S&C provided complete engineering, delivery, installation, commissioning, and training services for each site, with no safety incidents and minimal service interruptions to one of the nation’s largest transit systems.  View the entire case study here.
