Part of what makes S&C so unique is its values, the commitment to its employees and the areas where we all work. In the UK, where S&C has operations in Wales, the energy requirements of the country are diverse and it has a wealth of renewable energy sources just waiting to be tapped. So how does that fit with the S&C values? I’ll explain. In the UK, I have been selected as a member of the reconstituted RenewableUK Cymru—Welsh in its mother tongue—Strategy Group.
The Group is made up of 21 member companies that are committed to delivering the Welsh Government’s renewable energy targets whilst inputting ideas to the formation of future sustainable energy policies for Wales. S&C’s mission is to help the UK to transition to the low carbon economy, by maximising existing grid assets, and assimilating new renewable generation and demand technologies.
I’m delighted to contribute the expertise from S&C to this group and work alongside many others to improve the future energy options for Wales. The group is working closely together to overcome barriers to fulfilling current policies and targets and in building sustainable energy policies for the future.
Wales has 1,200 km of coastline, representing a significant natural advantage for wind and marine renewable energy resources. Wales currently generates 3TWh of electricity from renewables, with a further 5TWh either consented, under construction or in the planning process, which puts Wales on track to exceed its target of 7TWh by 2020.
Our membership of this group further supports our commitment to the Welsh low carbon economy. At S&C we are dedicated to helping connect renewables technologies to the grid, in order to decarbonise our power supply. By joining the RenewableUK Cymru Strategy Group we hope to help Wales play a leading role in the roll-out of renewables technology, and benefit from the job and profit creation this exciting sector brings
As well as driving forward the renewables sector, in the UK we’re also working to reduce our own operational emissions. The company has been awarded the ISO accredited CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement And Reduction Scheme) certification for measuring its UK carbon footprint and committing to a 5% improvement in carbon performance over the next five years.
At S&C, we focus on putting our values into action around the world.
