Earlier this month, Governor Quinn of Illinois vetoed Senate Bill 1652, also referred to as the Illinois Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act. Local business leaders were disappointed to hear that the bill had been vetoed as it is intended to update Illinois’ electric grid, create about 2,500 jobs in the state and support our economy.
Yesterday, business leaders from various organizations came to our facilities in Chicago to express their continued support for SB 1652. A bill of this nature comes at a crucial time when Illinoisans are in need of jobs and the state is in need of an upgraded infrastructure and grid. If the bill were to pass, it would jumpstart the clean energy economy in Illinois and give the state the competitive edge that is needed to compete in today’s global economy.
The Illinois General Assembly will be reconvening later this fall to potentially override the veto. Check out the September 27, 2011 Chicago Tribune for the full story.
