Smart Grid Solutions
Improve Operating Efficiency
S&C’s Smart Grid solutions reduce the cost of responding to outages on your distribution system, and your cost of maintaining equipment too. Here are just a few examples:
- IntelliRupter® PulseCloser utilizes PulseClosing™ Technology to test for faults. PulseClosing applies a very fast, low-energy pulse to the line. Substation transformers experience fewer through-faults, extending their life and reducing maintenance. Cables, conductors, splices, and terminations experience less thermal and mechanical stress from through-faults too. IntelliRupter also offers an intelligent fuse-saving approach, reducing the occurrence of blown fuses in response to momentary faults . . . and thus eliminating the need to send a crew to replace the fuse.
- IntelliCAP PLUS® Automatic Capacitor Controls are intelligent two-way communicating devices. Any problems experienced at a bank are reported immediately. So utility crews don’t need to periodically travel out to their capacitor banks to inspect them. Routine software upgrades and diagnostics can be handled remotely too.
- S&C’s TripSaver™ Dropout Recloser eliminates the permanent outages that can result when lateral fuses operate in response to momentary faults . . . reducing the need to dispatch crews to replace blown fuses.
- IntelliTEAM SG™ Automatic Restoration System uses peer-to-peer communication and distributed intelligence to initiate service restoration in seconds. With IntelliTEAM SG, restoration proceeds without the delays inherent in a dispatcher-operated or centrally controlled system. During storms or major outages, it quickly returns service to as many customers as possible, freeing utility personnel to deal with system repairs.
