Improve Asset Optimization

Optimizing the use of available assets is a high priority for utilities today, as they look to defer investments in new infrastructure. A key goal is minimizing losses and reducing wear and tear on equipment. S&C offers a number of products utilizing Smart Grid technologies that can help you improve asset optimization on your system. And we have the services needed to identify opportunities to improve asset utilization. For example:

  • IntelliRupter® PulseCloser utilizes PulseClosing™ Technology to test for faults. PulseClosing applies a very fast, low-energy pulse to the line. Substation transformers experience fewer through-faults, extending their life. Cables, conductors, splices, and terminations experience less thermal and mechanical stress from through-faults too.
  • Power Systems Services’ Reliability Studies provide recommendations for improving the efficiency and safety of a utility distribution system. S&C’s experienced staff will prepare an assessment based on indices such as SAIDI, SAIFI, and CAIDI, using software like CYMDIST for Windows®. Then they’ll provide recommendations for maximizing the life of your existing equipment.
  • S&C’s Smart Grid SMS™ Storage Management System provides better utilization of renewable generation, such as wind power. By extending equipment life and improving asset management, the system can defer or eliminate the need for investment in other infrastructure.
  • IntelliCAP PLUS® Automatic Capacitor Controls are “intelligent” two-way communicating devices. They enable utilities to obtain improved performance from switched capacitor banks.
  • The PureWave DSTATCOM® Distributed Static Compensator provides flexible voltage control for transmission and distribution systems, to improve line capacity utilization, shorten voltage recovery time for improved voltage stability, and minimize energy losses.
